Scraps, Scraps, Scraps

Scrap =  a small piece of something (especially fabric) that is leftover.

In this workshop you will learn about different ways to sort, organize and use up your fabric scraps to their fullest potential.  Diane will introduce stress-free fabric cutting and piecing techniques that will be helpful as we make some easy String and Crumb quilt blocks.  Get ready to turn your valuable stash of scraps into new beautiful projects!

Skill level: Beginner

Skill Details: You will also be required to have a working knowledge of your sewing machine.  The class schedule does not allow the instructor time to assist students with their machines.  We recommend you bring your sewing machine manual to class in the event you run into a problem.

Requirement: Supply List:

  • Sewing Machine in good working order, cord and foot pedal (¼” presser foot is optional)

  • Standard Sewing tools (pins, scissors, seam ripper, neutral/matching thread, etc.)

  • Rotary cutter with new blade

  • Cutting Mat

  • 6½” square ruler

  • Seam Roller or Wooden Pressing Tool

Fabric:

  • Stuff a grocery-sized brown bag with scraps.

  • Precutting fabric is NOT required.

  • For STRING blocks – we’ll be using fabric strips, ¾” – 2” wide x 4” – 12” long.

  • For CRUMB blocks, we’ll be using random sized scraps, preferably 3” square or larger.  The larger the scrap the more options, as they can be cut smaller as needed.

  • If desired, students can swap fabric with each other for more variety (optional).
